Understanding the Orchid flower parts

Orchids, like nearly all other flowers, consist of outer segments called sepals and inner segments called petals; the lip is actually a modified petal.

The column contains the flower’s reproductive parts and its purpose is to ensure that pollinating agents will transfer pollen from one flower to another.
